La Vereda
Socially Responsible and Sustainable Coffee

Nearly a decade ago, Timothy’s began supporting the La Vereda project with the purchase of approximately 77,000 lbs. of coffee beans. This year, due to consumer demand, Timothy’s plans to purchase 508,000 lbs. – providing the Embera-Chami community with a significant increase in income.

Contribute to valuable social change and protect the environment through your enjoyment of our new Women In Coffee Partnership Blend. Protecting the Environment

When you see the Organic Crop Improvement Association (OCIA) seal, names and trademarks on our coffees and teas, you can be assured that they are grown using methods and resources that minimize harmful effects on the environment. Organic production systems help to maintain soil fertility by reducing the use of synthetic fertilizers (e.g., nitrates and phosphates) and pesticides (i.e., herbicides, insecticides or fungicides). Limiting the use of these harmful agrochemicals also helps to protect rivers, plants and wildlife indigenous to coffee-growing countries, as well as the general public. In order for coffee to be certified and sold in Canada and the US, it must meet the high standards established by a third party Organic Certification Agency, such as the OCIA.

Setting the Standards Since 1985

Headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska, and founded in 1985, the OCIA is among the oldest and largest certification agents in the industry. It is a well-trusted, non-profit organization, dedicated to providing research, education and certification services to farmers, processors and handlers, worldwide.

OCIA standards ensure:

No synthetic fertilizers or harmful chemicals are used on the land for at least three years prior to harvesting crop
Operations are inspected by independent assessors, annually, and can be re-inspected – unannounced – at any time
Comprehensive records of organizations’ practices and processes are kept and submitted to the agency for review – each year

Timothy’s Organic Coffees Meet High Standards

Through the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Organic Program – accredited certifiers – Timothy’s has remained OCIA-certified since 2007. As such, Timothy’s must ensure its Organic products contain 100% Organic ingredients and that all ingredients are clearly labeled – fully identifying all Organic and non-organic ingredients.

Las Nubes

The Fisher Fund is an organization that supports the protection of the biological and ecological values of the Las Nubes Rainforest and adjacent area in southern Costa Rica. Working with the Faculty of Environmental Studies of York University in Toronto, Ontario and the Tropical Science Center in San José, the Fisher Fund has made significant achievements in research and conservation programs in biodiversity protection, rural sustainability, and environmental education in local schools. In support of this initiative, Timothy’s donates $1.00 per pound of Las Nubes beans sold to the Fisher Fund.

Ethiopian Kimssa

Founded in 1993, KIMSSA is a non-profit organization established to help disadvantaged students from Ethiopia with their education, vocational training, and in securing employment. KIMSSA stands for Kidane Mehret Student’s Self-Help Association, and the mission of KIMSSA is to develop the concept of self-help in which students, parents, the community and the State join to solve, or at least mitigate, the multifaceted problems facing Ethiopia’s youth. A portion of Timothy’s Ethiopian Kimssa sales are donated to this project.

Kosher Supervision of America

The KSA symbol is a firm guarantee to all consumers that the products bearing the symbol are in full compliance with the most demanding of kosher standards. Kosher Supervision of America (KSA) is a not-for-profit Kashrus agency recognized by rabbinical associations throughout the world. KSA is the largest, recognized and accepted, Orthodox kosher certification agency based in the western United States.
