Timothy’s Builds Strong Partnerships with Organizations That Share Our Core Values

When it comes to social and environmental programs, Timothy’s strongly supports partners that share our values: Support communities locally and around the world Promote environmental, ethical, and social responsibility Build and sustain strong, rewarding relationships

With our support, coffee farmers strive to preserve their land through sustainable coffee-growing practices. This helps to provide our customers with a lasting supply of premium coffee—without compromising the needs of future generations.

Protecting the Environment

When you see the Organic Crop Improvement Association (OCIA) seal, names and trademarks on our coffees and teas, you can be assured that they are grown using methods and resources that minimize harmful effects on the environment. Organic production systems help to maintain soil fertility by reducing the use of synthetic fertilizers (e.g., nitrates and phosphates) and pesticides (i.e., herbicides, insecticides or fungicides). Limiting the use of these harmful agrochemicals also helps to protect rivers, plants and wildlife indigenous to coffee-growing countries, as well as the general public.

In order for coffee to be certified and sold in Canada and the US, it must meet the high standards established by a third party Organic Certification Agency, such as the OCIA.

Setting the Standards Since 1985

Headquartered in Lincoln, Nebraska, and founded in 1985, the OCIA is among the oldest and largest certification agents in the industry. It is a well-trusted, non-profit organization, dedicated to providing research, education and certification services to farmers, processors and handlers, worldwide.

OCIA standards ensure:
  • No synthetic fertilizers or harmful chemicals are used on the land for at least three years prior to harvesting crop
  • Operations are inspected by independent assessors, annually, and can be re-inspected – unannounced – at any time
  • Comprehensive records of organizations’ practices and processes are kept and submitted to the agency for review – each year

Timothy’s Organic Coffees Meet High Standards

Through the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Organic Program – accredited certifiers – Timothy’s has remained OCIA-certified since 2007. As such, Timothy’s must ensure its Organic products contain 100% Organic ingredients and that all ingredients are clearly labeled – fully identifying all Organic and non-organic ingredients.
